Audrey J. Cookson

October 31, 1923 — September 13, 2014

Audrey J Cookson, 90, of Marstons Mills, MA, died peacefully on September 13, 2014, after a short stay at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich, MA.
Born October 31, 1923, in Fall River, MA, she was the daughter of Edwin and Elizabeth (Dwyer) Forrest. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 63 years, John E Cookson, who died in 2007. John was the "love of her life." They were high school sweethearts; she was 15 and he was 16 when they met. It was love at first sight and they became partners for life.
She is survived by her daughter, Debra Cookson and her husband Christopher Allen of West Falmouth, her son, David Cookson of Marstons Mills and seven grandchildren, Kaity, Emily, Sam, Elizabeth, Hannah, Bethany, and Luke. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families. Audrey was the youngest of six children and, at the time of her death, she was the sole surviving sibling of Raymond, Muriel (Porter), Virginia (Heffernan), June and Donald.
Audrey graduated from Durfee High School in 1941 and worked in a variety of office-support positions, starting during WW II and continuing until 1985, when she retired from the National Marine Fisheries Service in Gloucester, MA, to join John in their retirement. They enjoyed their annual visit to Naples, Florida, and spent lots of time with their grandchildren in Massachusetts and Virginia. In 1991, they moved back to Cape Cod from Rockport, MA, to return to the place where they had raised their young children. Audrey enjoyed her family and was a beloved “Grammy.” She will be greatly missed but we take comfort that she has rejoined our Dad.
Her family is planning a celebration of life gathering in early October.
