Muriel Harriet Solberg-Wagg, “Beste”, age 89, of Stoneham, died March 22, 2015, following a brief decline. She was the beloved wife of 66 years to Harry R. Wagg. Born and raised in Churchs Ferry, North Dakota during the Dust Bowl and the Great Depression, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Esther (Svien) Swanson.
Following graduation from high school, Muriel worked for Western Union, -and through the company, she was provided the opportunity to travel and work in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. It was during WWII and while working in California that she met and married her future husband, all within two weeks. In 1950, Muriel and Harry decided to settle in Stoneham where they raised their family.
True to her adventurous spirit, Muriel loved to travel. She and her husband toured throughout the States many times by car; they rode their tandem bicycle often over a hundred miles a day and they sailed their boat “Scalawagg” along the New England coast.
Muriel was a former member of the Stoneham Garden Club and she enjoyed many years swimming with friends at the Colonial Fitness Club in Lynnfield.
She was the cherished mother of Kristin Muriel Glowacki and her late husband Michael of Lancaster, PA and Harry R. Wagg II and his wife Maureen of Salem. She was the sister of Janice Guenthner of Bismark, ND and the late Harold Swanson. She was “Beste” to her grandchildren, Harry R. Wagg III and his wife Raegan, Christopher Glowacki and his wife Rachel and Julia Glowacki and to her great grandchildren, Lily, Henry, Dorothy and “soon to be” Jack.
A Memorial gathering will be held Sunday, April 12th , 2-4 P.M. at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift to the Home for Little Wanderers, Development Dept., 271 Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02115-9849.
