Mary G. Pronski

May 16, 1930 — May 30, 2015

Mary G. Pronski, a lifelong resident of Winchester, passed away peacefully May 30, 2015, at Winchester Hospital following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. Born and raised in Winchester; she was the daughter of the late Fioravanti and Adelina (Jacobellis) Errico, Mary attended St. Mary’s Parochial School in her early years and later graduated from Winchester High School. After high school, she attended the Malden Hospital School of Nursing where she earned her degree. Early in her nursing career, Mary traveled to Indiana for several months to help victims of a serious polio epidemic. She also worked at several major Boston hospitals, including Mass General, Brigham and Women and Beth Israel where she held supervisory positions and also specialized in private duty nursing.
She later obtained her MA real estate broker’s license and enjoyed renting and selling homes in Winchester for many years.
Mary was married in Winchester at the Immaculate Conception Church and was the wife of the late Winchester police officer, Anthony Pronski.
A sports enthusiast, Mrs. Pronski enjoyed participating in her children’s activities during her earlier years, by attending their dance recitals, swimming meets, football, softball and hockey tournaments throughout Canada and the U.S. She was also an avid Boston Bruins fan who loved to attend games with her entire family at the old Boston Garden on Sunday nights to watch Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito display their talent.
Her passions were many, but her favorites included being close to the ocean where she spent many of her summers vacationing in Plymouth, MA and winters in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Mrs. Pronski can best be remembered for her passion for Winchester and its town government. As an elected town meeting member for over thirty years, she accepted her civic duty seriously; always looking out for the best interests of the town, its employees and the children who attended Winchester public schools. You may not have agreed with Mary, but one thing for sure, you always knew where you stood. She was a true advocate of the Sachem Spirit and had a reputation to never back down from a good challenge, but to immerse herself in a heated debate on town meeting floor for something she believed in. She loved Winchester and very much valued education.
Mary had a knack for interacting with people; she spoke fluent Italian and she enjoyed helping people in any way she possibly could. She was past president of the Lincoln School Parents Association, appointed to several town meeting sub-committees and was former chairman of the Winchester School Committee.
Some of her outside interests included reading, treasure hunting and dancing. She was light on her feet and you could, without a doubt, always find Mary to be the first one on the dance floor at a wedding reception, party or social event, trying to encourage others to follow in her footsteps. She could never resist passing up a good yard sale or flea market while in her travels. She had a flair for turning something old and worn into something new and reusable at a bargain price.
She was a past member of Saint Mary’s Mr. and Mrs. Club, the Massachusetts Association of School Committees and the Endicott College Alumni Association.
She was the cherished mother of Kevin A. Pronski, Anthony Pronski, Jr. and the late Adelene M. Pronski all of Winchester. She was the sister of Rose Vesce of Enfield, CT and the late Domenic G. and James V. Errico.
Funeral services will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington Street, Winchester, Saturday, June 13th at 10:30 AM, followed by a funeral Mass celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 158 Washington St. Visiting hours are Friday, June 12th, 4-8 PM. As a tribute to Mary’s memory, donations may be made to: The Anthony Pronski Sr. Scholarship Fund, c/o Winchester Cooperative Bank, 19 Church St., Winchester, MA 01890.
