Henry Spurgeon Delong

December 29, 1921 — June 7, 2015

Henry S. DeLong, age 93, of Burlington formerly of Woburn, died following a lengthy decline on June 7, 2015. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Smyth) DeLong. Born in Lynn, MA, he was the son of the late Frank L. and Marion K. (Ward) DeLong.
When Henry was a youngster, his family moved to Sutton, NH and it was there that he graduated from high school and entered the service. He was a Navy veteran of WWII.
Henry had many trades; his main occupation was a pipefitter in the heating and cooling installation industry. He also worked as an engineer, an electrician, mechanic, appliance repairman and hypnotist.
He was a sports enthusiast. He regularly played golf at the Woburn Country Club and bowled at the Woburn Bowlerdrome and Sunlight Alleys in Stoneham. In addition, he played volleyball, Bocci and softball; he biked and water skied and loved camping and country dancing. He was a very competitive cribbage player.
Mr. DeLong was a Woburn Boy Scout Leader and a member of the Woburn Elks.
He is survived by a son Paul DeLong and his wife Pamela of Pocasset and his daughter Carnie (Carolyn) Hansen and her husband Robert of Stoneham. He was the grandfather of four and great grandfather of seven.
Visiting hours will be held at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham, on Wednesday, June 10 starting at 10 A.M. , with a funeral service at 11:45 A.M. Burial with military honors will follow at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift the Great Dog Rescue, 34D Holton St., Woburn, MA 01801.
