Joseph William Clinton Whitmore, Jr., age 78, of Tewksbury, formerly of Medford, died following a brief illness on June 19, 2015. He was the cherished husband of Sonja (Johansson) Whitmore with whom he had shared 31 years of marriage.
Born in Medford, MA and raised in Somerville; he was the son of the late Joseph W.C. and Eleanor (Dearborn) Whitmore.
Joseph was a graduate of Somerville High School in the class of 1956. He was a salesman and general manager of HVAC, a heating and air conditioning business in which he took great pride. He previously owned a cab company, garage and delivery service.
Joseph was an active member of the Stoneham First Baptist Church, where he served on the Property and Finance Committees and the church Men’s Club. He was a member of the King Solomon Masonic Lodge.
Throughout his life, it was important to Joe to be physically fit and he enjoyed body building at a local health club. At age 65, he earned his black belt in Tai Kwan Do.
In addition to his wife, he leaves his sister Marion Warburton and her husband Geoffrey of Falmouth and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sat., July 11 at 11 A.M. in the First Baptist Church, 457 Main St., Stoneham.
