Jean Ruth (Langdon) Walter, 87, of Brooksby Village, Peabody, MA, passed away on August 29, 2015. Her patience, sweet smile and loving nature will be sorely missed.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Brooksby Village MacIntosh Catering Room, 300 Brooksby Village Dr., on Friday, September 4, at 7:00 pm.
Jean was born in Model City, NY to G. Joseph and Elsie (Richardson) Langdon on January 12, 1928. She went to high school at Wilson Regional High School and graduated in 1944. She went on to earn a degree in Art Education for the Handicapped from New York State Teachers College in Buffalo, NY. Jean stayed home with her children initially, then co-owned and worked in a Sir Speedy printing franchise in Woburn, MA with her husband, Maurice Walter, from 1973 to 1988. She donated her artistic and teaching skills to develop and administer craft programs for the elderly in the Wakefield Senior Center and several local nursing homes. She pursued a lifelong hobby hunting and collecting glassware, a passion shared by Maurice. Jean also enjoyed reading, quilting, dressmaking, knitting and many other crafts. Along with Maurice, she traveled extensively in Europe and the Far East, another of her ambitions.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Maurice A. Walter of Brooksby Village, Peabody; children, Karen, Raymond, David, daughter-in-law Heidi and son-in-law Greg, and grandchildren, Daniel, Matthew, David, Heather and Ashley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Brooksby Village Care Fund, 200 Brooksby Village Dr, Peabody, MA 01960. Condolences may be sent to Maurice Walter, 302 Brooksby Village Dr., #510, Peabody, MA 01960.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Brooksby Village Braeburn Gardens, Lahey Clinic in Peabody and Kaplan House Hospice in Danvers, MA.
