Gloria E. Johnson

Gloria E. Johnson, age 90, a long time resident of Stoneham, passed away November 24, 2015, following a brief illness. She was the cherished wife in their 70th year of marriage to Robert W. Johnson.
Born and raised in Winthrop, MA, she was the daughter of the late Perry and Gladys (Hiltz) Feltmate.
Gloria was a graduate of Winthrop High School in the class of 1942 and the Chandler Business School of Boston. After raising her family, she worked at Transitron as an engineering secretary.
Gloria and her husband Robert have been residents of Stoneham since 1947. She was a devout member of All Saints’ Episcopal Church where she was the church secretary and served on the Alter Guild for many years.
She was a leader in the Stoneham Girl Scouts and an advocate for the mentally challenged; trying to promote their inclusion into the public schools. She was a volunteer at EMARC and on the Board of Directors for Camp Hope.
Gloria and her family enjoyed vacationing summers at the homestead of her parents in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia.
She was the mother of Carol A. Hyson and her husband Lindy of Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, Linda R. Curran and her husband Chip of Concord and the late Robert W. Johnson Jr. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matthew and Danielle Hyson, Christopher and Evan Curran.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 1 P.M. in All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 79 Central St., Stoneham followed by burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Visitation at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham Monday, 4-8 P.M. Those desiring may make a memorial gift to All Saints’ Episcopal Church.
