Virginia D. Day, age 81, of Stoneham, passed away peacefully, January 22, 2016, after a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of George R. Day. Born and raised in New Britain, CT, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anne (Gish) Degutis.
Virginia attended Mary Immaculate Academy in New Britain and graduated from Wethersfield High School in Connecticut. She earned her Associates at Boston University and her Bachelors at Suffolk University. Virginia was a science teacher at Wakefield Junior High School.
Ginny had an outgoing, entertaining personality; she enjoyed singing and playing piano. She was a member of the “Sweet Adelines” of Reading and a communicant of St. Patrick Church. She, along with her family, enjoyed their vacation home at Wells Beach, ME.
Ginny was a very caring wife and mother. For the past few years, she and her husband, with whom she had shared 57 years of marriage, resided at an assisted living residence where she lovingly attended to his needs.
She was the mother of Michael Day of Stoneham, David Day and his wife Tami of Andover and the late Stephen Day and his wife Maryann of Salem, NH. She was the grandmother of Jeremy, Abigail, Stephen, Andrew and Andrea and several great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Geraldine Bowley of Old Orchard Beach, ME.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 4-7 P.M. at the funeral home. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, January 27th at 10A.M.at St. Patrick Church in Stoneham. Burial will be at a later date in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody. Those desiring may send a memorial tribute to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 9 Erie Dr., Natick, MA 01760.
