George Richard Day

September 20, 1931 — February 7, 2016

George Richard Day, age 84, a lifelong resident of Stoneham, died February 7, 2016, following a brief illness. He was the cherished husband of the late Virginia (Degutis) Day with whom he had shared 57 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Stoneham, he was the son of the late George and Agnes (Fielding) Day.
George attended South School where he was a student of the legendary Miss Gerrish, and he graduated from Stoneham High School in the class of 1949. For 65 years, he celebrated each year with a reunion of his classmates. George earned his Bachelors and Law Degree at Suffolk University. It was while he was at Suffolk that he met Ginny whom he married in 1958.
George was employed as an engineering consultant in the microelectronics field at Raytheon. He worked at their facility in Andover for forty-three years, retiring in 2007.
Although, he enjoyed his work all those years at Raytheon, he did not bring his work home. He relished relaxing at home, watching sports, listening to music of the Big Bands and working on carpentry projects. In earlier years he would take his family camping throughout New England and later enjoyed their vacation home at Wells Beach, ME.
George was a real “ham”, had a great sense of humor and was well liked among his many friends.

He was the grandfather of Jeremy, Abigail, Stephen, Andrew and Andrea. He also leaves several great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Shirley Day and Geraldine Bowley and six nephews. He was the brother of the late Robert Day.
