Richard L. Watson, age 92, of Stoneham, formerly of Lynn and Swampscott, passed away February 8, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Marie (Vento) Watson. Born in Lynn, MA and raised in Swampscott, he was the son of Harold and Clara (Flibotte) Watson.
Richard graduated from Swampscott High School in 1942. For the next two years, he served in the Merchant Marines during which time he went to Maritime Radio School. He attended Boston University and Columbia University.
Richard was employed as sales manager at Commerce Engraving for twenty years, and for the following 25 years he was circulation manager and head of advertising at the Lynn Item.
Richard was Past Master Councilor of Demolay, and a former member of the Masons, Shriners and Odd Fellows. He was a champion cribbage player and received this honor at the Topsfield Fair in 1983. He was a proud veteran of his maritime service in WWII.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Lawrence, Virginia, Leonard, John and Joseph; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A private family graveside service with military honors will be held in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn.
Richard will be remembered for his friendly, outgoing nature. In the short time that he lived at Bear Hill Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Stoneham, he made many friends. He will be missed.
