Ralph Eugene Hunter Jr., age 98, of Quincy, passed away February 15, 2016, at the New England Home for the Deaf in Danvers. Born in Hingham, MA, and raised in Weymouth, he was the son of the late Ralph and Margaret (Cook) Hunter.
At the age of three, Ralph became deaf as a result of having scarlet fever. He graduated from the Randolph Boston School for the Deaf in 1935, where he received the Outstanding Service Award for his significant contributions.. He graduated from Weymouth High School in 1939. He later attended the Bryant and Stratton Business School.
Ralph worked for many years in South Boston for a printing company. He was very active in the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf, where he held numerous official positions, including four-time president, vice president, secretary and treasurer.
He was the cherished husband of the late Thecla (Wisniewski) Hunter and father of the late Dorothy Ulevicius and Theresa Figaratto. He was the brother of the late Robert and Charles Hunter. He is survived by grandchildren, Joseph, Michael, Michael, Brian, Stephen and Christina; great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jessica, Ashlee, Joseph, Samantha, Mark and Melanie and a great great grandchild, Harper.
Funeral from the Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham, Friday at 9 A.M. followed by a funeral mass at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10 A.M. Visitation at the funeral home Thursday, 6-8 P.M.
