Dwight N. Vibbert of Peabody, formerly of Bedford and Lexington, died at Brooksby Village in Peabody on March 10, 2016. Born on May 29, 1925 in West Haven, CT; he was the son of the late Dwight and Alice (Nelson) Vibbert, and husband of the late Natalie (Boland) Vibbert.
Dwight served in the US Army Corps during WWII and was stationed in Iceland. He returned to New London, CT after the war and graduated from Mitchell College in 1948. After graduating from the Boston University of Law in 1951, Vibbert married Natalie Boland of Ashmont Dorchester and began his professional career as a lawyer in private practice and in the employ of the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company in Springfield as an estate planner and as an advisor to pension and profit sharing plans for participating employees. He joined the Trust Department of the former Hartford National Bank and Trust Company in Hartford, CT in 1955, as an estate planner and trust administrator. In October 1960, he joined the former Guaranty Bank and Trust Company of Worcester as Vice President in charge of the Bank’s Trust Department. Under his direction, the department expanded and became the third largest Trust Department in Worcester county dealing with all facets of trust and estate administration and investment management. He left the bank in 1971 and became head of the Trust Division of Massachusetts Bankers Association in Boston representing 80 Massachusetts bank trust departments in the areas of education, legislation, legal and regulatory matters. After retiring from the association in 1989, he opened a law practice in Lexington where he specialized in estate settlement, taxation, probate and trust law, real estate and estate planning.He was also an accomplished chess player and had a deep appreciation of classical music, particularly the performance of the violin.
He was the father of Spencer Vibbert & his wife Anne Canadeo of Northport , NY and Martha Vibbert & her husband William Lattanzi of Belmont. He is also survived by his grandchildren Katherine Vibbert, Nicholas and Noah Lattanzi and dear friends Barbara Brown Estey of Bedford and Nancy Marsden of Peabody. He was the brother of the late George Vibbert.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19th at 2 P.M. in the Hancock United Church of Christ, 1912 Massachusetts Ave., Lexington 02421. In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial gift to the Hancock Church or the Lexington Historical Society, P.O. Box 514, Lexington.
