Margaret E. Rossi stepped over the horizon on March 9, 2016. She was a resident of winchester for nearly 50 years. Born in Jamaica Plain, MA; she was the daughter of the late Henry L. and Stella(Murray) Werner. She was educated in Boston schools and graduated from Girls High School. While a flight attendant with Northeast Airlines, she met her husband, Rodney Torres, a senior at Harvard. They were married in 1950 and shared 55 years together.
Margaret was the proud mother of eight children, 4 boys and 4 girls, and the proud grandmother of tweleve, 6 boys and 6 girls. Her children were her chief interest and great satisfaction, as she followed them through their education, travels, marriages and careers: Paula Torres-Werner, Captain, USAir, of Galisteo, NM, 1951-1993; Peter R. Torres, Aborist of Portland, OR, married to Dr.Ava Stone: John R. Torres, student, musician, graduate of Winchester High School, 1955-1973: Paul L. Torres, Captain, US Merchant Marines of Houlton, ME, with Jane Torres parent of Annie Torres Savage, Benjamin and Rachel Torres: Ellyn M. Torres, Director of Human Resources of Winchester, mother of Lilly and John Breen; Anne M. Torres, Teacher of South Berwick, ME, mother of Sophia, Marshall and Matthew White, married to Marshall White; Carla M. Torres, RN, Director of Operations, of Dennis, mother of Leo and Ruby Laemmle, married to Spencer Laemmle; Christian N. Torres, Civil Engineer, retired Chief, US Coast Guard Reserve, of Hanover, father of Christiana and Peter Torres, married to Denise Torres.
When their children were grown, Margaret and Rod traveled extentively, visiting all 50 state capitols and many European capitols, as well. They shared winters in Key Biscayne, FL and the Caribbean Islands.
A faithful cummunicant of St. Mary's Parish, Margaret served as Prefect of St. Mary's Sodality, and was the President of Church Women United.
Her sister Marie Shannahan and brothers Henry S. and Louis M. Werner died before her. Margaret leaves her nieces Joan Richards of TX and Dianne Maney of AL and other cherished friends and relatives.
Margaret was grateful for a long and rewarding life. At her request, burial at Wildwood Cemetery will be private. Her family sends deep appreciation to Beacon Hospice for their compassionate care and support, especially Elisa, Peter, Corrie and Karri.
