Barbara Stratmeyer Bedford

d. April 3, 2016

Barbara Stratmeyer Bedford died peacefully on Sunday, April 3rd, 2016. She was 90 years old. Born in Orange, New Jersey in 1925, and raised in Reading, PA, she met her husband, Sherman C. Bedford while they were each attending their respective prep schools. Bobbie and Sherm spent most of their married life living in Wellesley Hills, MA where they raised their three children: Sherm, Karen and Bruce. Sherman died in 1999 after 52 years of mutual devotion.

Being an only child, Bobbie delighted in her many friends and thoroughly enjoyed all sorts of social occasions. She was well known for her infectiously gay laughter. She was a member of the Wellesley Garden Club and the Junior League of Boston. Bobbie graduated from the Emma Willard School and from Wellesley College in 1947. She loved playing tennis and golf as well as bowling with a couples group. She adored traveling, trying new foods and eating chocolate. She was an active member with the Altar Guild at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Wellesley, MA.

Bobbie moved to North Hill in Needham, Massachusetts after Sherman died. She has been a beloved member of the North Hill community. She adored the extraordinary women who cared for her, and will be remembered for her indomitable spirit; her love for people and her determination to live life to it’s fullest.

Bobbie is survived by her children: Sherman Bedford Jr. and his wife Patti, Karen Bedford Williamson, Bruce R. Bedford and his wife Dana, by her grandchildren: Emily A. Williamson and her husband David, Ashley B. Brown and her husband Daniel, Elyse W. Iseman and her husband Scott and Dilan Clarke Bedford.
