Alexander William Mackenzie

(FLAG) Alexander W. MacKenzie, age 97, of Winchester and Stoneham, died April 11, 2016. Born in Boston and raised in Winchester, he was the son of the late Alexander and Isabelle (Looby) MacKenzie.
Alexander was a graduate of Winchester High School in the class of 1936. He served four years in the Navy during WWII and he graduated from the University of Maine in 1949.
Mr. MacKenzie was employed by the MA Department of Public Works as a consultant civil engineer for the interstate highway design.
“Bud” was a life member and Past Commander of the Winchester American Legion Post. He was a longtime member of the Bear Hill Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf. He had resided in Stoneham since 1955, but he always thought of Winchester as his home. He belonged to the Winchester Historical Society, the Winchester Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Friends of the Middlesex Canal and the Winchester Senior Center.
He is survived by his nieces Jean Boyle of Wellesley and Caryl Minor of Florida and six grandnieces. He was the brother of the late Hazel Bresnahan, Isabel Burton and Dorothea MacKenzie.
Funeral Services will be held from the Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham, Friday at 9 A.M. followed by a funeral mass at St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham at 10 A.M. Burial with military honors in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester.
