David Coleman Bicknell, age 89, a lifelong resident of Stoneham, died peacefully October 21, 2016. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Jean (Vogler) Bicknell. Born December 21, 1926, in Medford and raised in Stoneham; he was the son of the late Raymond C. and Julia (Peterson) Bicknell.
David was a graduate of Stoneham High School in the class of 1945. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII.
For more than 40 years, he was employed at Otis Elevator, and later as a State Elevator Inspector. He was a member of Local 4 Elevator Constructors Union.
Mr. Bicknell was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee and Chairman of the Property Committee. He can now be identified as the anonymous poet at church.
He always enjoyed the companionship of his dogs, and he had many collies and shelties over the years. He was an avid golfer and very adept at playing cards.
In addition to his wife Jean, he is survived by his sister Joanna Howes of Myrtle Beach, SC; his sister-in-law Ruby Vogler of Silver Spring, MD and many nieces; nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. He was pre-deceased by his twin brother Douglas P. Bicknell and brother-in-law Lee Vogler.
Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church, 457 Main St., Stoneham, MA 02180, on Tuesday, October 25th, followed by burial with military honors in Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham. Those desiring may make a memorial tribute to the First Baptist Church of Stoneham. Arrangements under the direction of Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home of Stoneham.
