Valerie Slavin, age 81, of Stoneham, formerly of Hingham, Cohasset and Pottstown, PA, passed peacefully with family on January 27, 2017. She was the wife of the late Joseph Slavin and former wife of William Howl.
Born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania; she was the daughter of the late Harold and Eleanor (Brown) Chagnon.
Valerie had been a resident of Hingham for over thirty years, prior to moving to Stoneham. She was very interested in the history of Hingham, and it was there that she bought and sold antiques. She was known for her sense of humor, challenging her friends to card games and her love of the Red Sox. She found great enjoyment in spending time with friends and family, and summers at her camp in the Eastern Berkshires on the Deerfield River.
She was the mother of Gwyneth Kania of Johnston, RI, Susan Hague & her husband Terry of Chepachet, RI and Pamela Sherry & her husband James of Stoneham. She was the stepmother of Alan Slavin & his wife Robin of Raynham, Rick Slavin of Naperville, IL and Jonathan Slavin & his wife Tiffany of Upper Saddle, NJ and Grammy and MiMi to Doug and Kelly Kania, Jason, Derek and Michael Rhodes, Ian and Kyle Sherry, Jessica, Jayden, Giovanna and Juliette Slavin. She also leaves her beloved cat Steevie.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, February 4th, 3-5 P.M. , to include a service at 4 P.M. at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
