Henry F. Blout, “Sonny”, 82, of Melrose, formerly of Stoneham, passed away peacefully with family by his side on February 3, 2017. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 58 years, Sandra (MacKay), son James and his wife Angie, daughter Margie Gibson and sons Jeffrey and John. He was a loving grandfather to two adoring granddaughters, Ashley and Hannah; and “Uncle Sonny” to three nieces and two nephews. The son of the late Henry and Mary (Masi) Blout, Henry is preceded in death by his sister Shirley Lyons and survived by his brother Michael and his wife Bonnie and his brother-in-law James MacKay.
Born in Stoneham, MA on December 28, 1934, Henry graduated from Stoneham High School in 1953, where he was voted both “Class Most Musical” and “Most Talented”. Soon after, he married Sandra, his high school sweetheart, and traded his drumming and marimba skills for an early career as an auto mechanic and business owner at Blout’s Flying A in Stoneham, a neighborhood institution where countless lifelong friendships were forged. Later, he purchased State Street Liquors in Lynn, where he worked until his retirement at age 63. Henry’s favorite pastimes included traveling with his wife, fishing with his friends and sons, creating jewelry from gemstones, cooking fabulous meals for those he loved, following the Big Bad Boston Bruins and making his granddaughters smile. Loyal, endlessly protective, strong of will and heart, always dependable, Henry has left a lasting impression on every life he touched. Funeral services will be held at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham, Wednesday, Feb. 8th at 11 AM . Visitation will be Tuesday, 4-8 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Henry’s memory to the MSPCA , 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130-9923.
