Lionel H. Perlo

August 18, 1924 — February 27, 2017

Lionel Hershel Perlo (but he preferred Hasenpfeffer) of Newton, died peacefully on February 27, 2017, after a brief illness. He was 92 and a half. Half birthdays mattered to him. He was born in Montreal on August 18, 1924, to Rose and David Perlo. He attended Tufts University and was graduated from Harvard Law School. He practiced law in Boston. Lionel married Esther “Barbara” (Cloper) in 1960 and they were together until her death in 2013. He is survived by his children: Douglas and Alison; their wives Rebecca and Alyssa and his grandchildren, Zachary and Noah. There were many things Lionel enjoyed during his long life: tennis, bike riding, walking, colleting antiques, time on the Cape and in the Berkshires. And single malt scotch. To the end, Lionel also loved to read and was an avid sports fan. He made sure to wait until he saw the Super Bowl before going to the hospital. He was very glad he did. Services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ACLU.
