Emery R. Whitney, age 86, of Salem and Florida,passed away March 14, 2017. Born in Springfield, MA; the son of the late Jerome and Yvonne (Desautels) Whitney. He was the beloved husband of the late Debra (McGrath)and the late Loretta (O’Neill). He was the loving father of Lisbeth (Steve)Frampton, Kacey Levesque, Joannah, Mary (Nick Nowak), Nancy Carroll(Doug)and Susannah Daysh (Ian)and stepfather of 4 daughters. He was the proud grandfather of Christina, Matthew, Bradley and Michael and doting great grandfather of Logan. He was the dear brother of Eleanor King & her husband Jim, the late Jerome Whitney and his wife Carol and the late David Whitney and his wife the late Marie. He leaves ten nieces and nephews.
He attended Cathedral High School, Holy Cross College, Kingspoint Merchant Marine Academy and University of Massachusetts. He was a US Navy Radio Engineer during the Korean War stationed in Greenland and a manufacturer’s representative for industrial machine tools including selling the cogs to make the Saturn Rockets and the Apollo Space Crafts. He was a member of St. James Church, Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, Lions Club, Irish-American Club and Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He loved sailing, golf, tinkering with engines, dogs, computer games, genealogy, reading spy novels and eating breakfast at his favorite restaurants. Burial ceremony will be at sea by the US Navy. Memorial contributions may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
