Antoinette M. Houghton, “Toni” of Stoneham passed away April 24, 2017. Born and raised in Medford, MA on July 17, 1931; she was the daughter of the late John and Josephine (Mormino) Mantia. She was the youngest of three siblings, including the late John and Rose.
Toni had a strong Catholic upbringing; she attended parochial grade school, Mount St. Joseph’s Academy in Brighton and Saint Mary’s College in Hooksett, NH. where she received a bachelor’s degree in nutrition.
Toni met the love of her life, Norman R. Houghton Jr. while attending college, and they were happily married over 60 years until Norman died in 2015.
Although Toni was a busy mother of five children, she found time to pursue a career as a dietitian, serving several large nursing homes in the greater Boston area. Toni and Norman raised their family in Saint Patrick’s Church Parish where she served as a Eucharistic minister.
Toni and Norm loved spending summer weekends with their kids families around their backyard pool. They also enjoyed vacationing on Cape Cod. Later in life, they spent their winters in Fort Meyers, Florida and summers in Stoneham. They loved to travel with friends and were able to visit several parts of Europe, California, Hawaii, several Caribbean Islands and they visited the Holy Land with their church family.
Toni was the loving mother of Kenneth Houghton and his wife Deborah of Wakefield, Robert Houghton and his wife Kerry of Dover, FL, Judith Catino and her husband Edward of Medford, Norman Houghton III and his wife Rita of Ft. Meyers, FL, and John Houghton and his wife Patricia of Salem, NH. She also leaves twelve cherished grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham, on Monday, May 1st at 9 A.M. followed by a funeral mass at 10 A.M. in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Stoneham. Visiting hours are Sunday, 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
