Margaret Mary Johnson died peacefully September 8 at Neville Place, Cambridge, Massachusetts after a long struggle with Alzheimers. She
was a resident of Arlington,MA for many decades and leaves her beloved sisters, Stephanie Garrett and Patricia Mawhood of Bath, England. Margaret was born on Christmas Eve, 1938 as a member of a loving, Irish family. She was a strong student and avid reader. As a young woman she came to the United States to further her profession as a physical therapist for which she received many awards and grateful thanks from her patients. She was very active as a longtime member of Sacred Heart Parish community in Lexington, MA where she was a powerful woman of faith, a gifted lector and heroic model of the call to "serve one another".
She was also a lifelong advocate for international peace and justice, serving in Pax Christi, Amnesty International, and Agape organizations in leadership, educational and support roles. Throughout her life, Margaret was a great model of social justice in her words and in her deeds. Her bumper sticker read " God Bless the Whole World. NO Exceptions".
A memorial service and mass will be held on Saturday, September 30, 11AM at Sacred Heart Church with a reception to follow in the Sacred Heart Parish Center across the street at 20 Follen Road. Burial will be private. Donations may be made in her honor to Sacred Heart Parish, 1997 Massachusetts Ave., Lexington MA 02421 or to Amnesty International.
