Barbara Lillian (Hurd) Meehan

MEEHAN, Barbara Lillian (Hurd), of Medford passed away on December 7, 2017 at Winchester Rehabilitation and Nursing Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 19, 1928. She was 89 years old. Barbara graduated from Somerville High in 1946 and went to work for New England Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. She also worked at Tony’s Villa in Newton and at the Hilltop Steakhouse in Saugus. She enjoyed her years working with the Medford seniors, planning activities at the center. She retired from Massachusetts General Hospital in 1993 as a secretary to the Neurosurgery Department. As a resident of Medford for 60 years, Barbara loved to cook, sew, crochet, play cards, and make her own greeting cards. She was also a Patriots fan.
Beloved mother to Linda Volpicelli and her husband Richard of Bedford, MA and Cynthia Rineer and her husband John of Medford, MA. Adored by her grandchildren Kara Varden and husband Jayce, Nicole Dalton and husband Clint, Richard Volpicelli and wife Jennifer, Keith Rineer, and Kevin Rineer. Loving great-grandmother “GG” to Eva and Jackson Varden, Vivien and Xavier Dalton, and Nicholas Volpicelli. Loving aunt to Carolyn Strati and Jennine Powers Roche. She was predeceased by her parents Carrie Ethel Jones Hurd and Everett Newcomb Hurd and her older sister Ruth.
