Alice Woodall Comiskey, age 87, of Needham, died peacefully at home, November 2, 2018. Born in Boston and raised in Jamaica Plain, she was the daughter of the late Dr. James Martin Woodall, the director of the Adams House psychiatric hospital and Alice Katherine (Gray) Woodall, a local artist and philanthropist. She was the wife of the late Daniel C. Comiskey.
Alice graduated from the Brimmer and May School in Boston and Wells College in Aurora, NY. After graduation, she moved to New York City, where she worked for the Herald Tribune and the Reader’s Digest. She received a Master’s Degree from New York University.
She moved with her husband to Watertown, CT in 1960. She was active in the Garden Club, Sexta Fiera and the Litchfield Pony Club . She became certified in education for students with learning disabilities and the Orton-Gillingham Method and taught at the Taft School.
Mrs. Comiskey retired to Needham and continued her involvement with the local garden club, the Episcopal Church Women and the Society of the Companions of the Holy Cross. She spent most summers on Southport Island, ME with extended family and friends.
She had a keen wit, a delightful sense of humor and she was an avid reader, especially of mysteries.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter Alice Campbell; her son Daniel Comiskey and his wife Jacqueline and six grandchildren.
Services will be private. Memorial tributes may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
