d. October 28, 2019

Arthur “Old Fart” Lewis Talmadge Sr., 82 years of age, peacefully slipped away in his bed at Life Care Center of Stoneham, on October 28th 2019.
He was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 3rd 1937 to the late George Ellsworth Talmadge and the late Doris (Small) Talmadge. He was the youngest of 11 children. His sister and nine brothers preceded him in death.
Arthur married the love of his life, the late Elizabeth “Penny” (Thomas) Talmadge on September 7,th 1959 and together the happy couple welcomed 3 children into the world. Their legacy of love is continued by their son Arthur L. Talmadge Jr. of Royse City, Texas, daughter Ilene M. Talmadge of Nashua, New Hampshire, as well as, son Troy C. Talmadge and son-in-law Britannic Z. Talmadge of Stoneham, Massachusetts. That legacy continues further by their granddaughters, Heather Burns of Nashua, New Hampshire and Veronica Nixon with her husband Aaron Nixon of Milford, New Hampshire and further still by their great grandson, Michael Burns of Nashua, New Hampshire.
Arthur was a proud Marine, who loved his country and his family. He took pride in the fact that despite being blind in his right eye, he was able to become a Marine and earn his sharpshooter status in rifles as well as pistols, by teaching himself to shoot left-handed. Although he left active duty to start a family, his desire to be of service to his fellow man continued. He set out to join the police academy, but his vision impairment prevented him from doing so. To stay true to his calling, Arthur served and protected his community for 40 years in the field of private security. As a security guard he was instrumental in thwarting a car theft ring and had worked with police to solve various other crimes. On August 23rd, 2019. Stoneham Police Chief, James McIntyre, helped Arthur achieve his lifelong dream by making him an Honorary Officer of the Stoneham Police for his service.
Later in life, Arthur became an author and recently published his book THIS MARINE’S AMERICAN DREAM. The book is an autobiographical account of his life as a young marine returning to civilian life and the journey he and his family traveled in his pursuit of happiness & achieving his Great American Dream. Publishing a book at 82 was a proud moment for him and he was happy to celebrate its launch with his family, friends and a gathering of over 150 people all applauding his accomplishment.
In his final days, he enjoyed having his children take him on daily visits with all the nurses and staff of Life Care Center of Stoneham, as well as the Compassus Hospice team members; all with whom he had become good friends.
