Beverly G. Nameche

Bev was a vibrant, vivacious, beautiful, resilient woman and dedicated partner of Stephen Payne and mother of Lee Reid, Paul Nameche and Renee Albano died Saturday, May 22, 2021 at her home in Essex. Daughter of William Brauneis and Irene Douglas Brauneis, Bev was born in Boston on July 5, 1935.  Summers were spent in Gloucester with her grandparents, Louis R. Douglas, a fisherman and his wife, Ethel G (Johnson) before a permanent move to Gloucester in 1966.  She was our rock and enjoyed all that life had to offer; her children and grandchildren, her many friends, her gardens, the warmth of summer, canoeing the Ipswich River, dancing with Steve, visiting friends in Europe, camping, traveling to Yosemite, visiting the Grand Canyon where she remarked “you’ve seen one rock…”, yearly visits to Key West with her grandchildren and great grandchild, Jackson Hole and going on safari in South Africa.  Written in her Roslindale high school 1953 yearbook is “ She certainly isn’t a square ”. How true! Bev spent 52 years using a wheelchair due to a spinal injury resulting from a car accident.  She remained thoroughly independent; her injury merely widened the net that she cast for friends and colleagues.  Left behind with so much love and many memories are Stephen H. Payne, her devoted partner of 38 years, her daughters, Lee Reid of Essex, widow of John B Reid, Jr.; Renee Albano of Beverly, wife of Paul F. Albano; her son, Paul W. Nameche of Essex, partner of Daisy L. Jebb; grandchildren Jared C. Strong, Shelby E.  Clark, wife of Anthony Clark, Tyler G. Albano, Haley J. Albano and Nicholas P. Albano and her great granddaughter, Tennyson G. Clark.  She was predeceased by her brother William Brauneis.

Steve, Lee, Paul and Renee will host a memorial gathering for friends and family on Saturday, June 19 th from 1PM to 5PM at The Mansion at the Hellenic Center, 117 County Road, Ipswich, MA.

Bev donated to support the work by Dr. Tom Catena in the Nuba mountains in Sudan. If you choose to honor her by continuing that support at African Mission Healthcare, PO Box 8598, Pueblo, CO 81008-8598, Support Dr. Tom
