Brian J. Murphy

d. December 29, 2022

Brian J. Murphy of Haverhill died December 29, 2022, at Lahey Hospital, Burlington, after a brief illness. Brian was born at Winchester Hospital on January 17, 1962.  His family resided in Winchester until moving to Stoneham when Brian was in fifth grade.  He always considered Stoneham his hometown.  He had a close group of friends from the Colonial Park neighborhood that he kept in touch with throughout his life.  He graduated from Stoneham High School in 1980.

Brian worked at Mahoney's Rocky Ledge in Winchester throughout high school and several years after graduation.  He liked this job and always enjoyed gardening, growing plants and his own vegetables.  He was able to travel to Canada every December to pick out Chritsmas trees to send back and sell at Mahoney's.  He loved these wintertime trips.

Brian moved to Cambridge in 1986 and began a career in Criminal Justice.  He secured a position as a counselor at a federal halfway house in Boston that serviced men and women transitioning from prison. He enjoyed this work and stayed there for many years.

Brian was a great guy who had a knack for making people laugh.  He was intelligent and loved reading National Geographic and non-fiction crime books.  He was a good son.  He always had a soft spot for animals and those less fortunate. It was very hard not to like Bian.  His love for music was well known, with the Beatles being his all time favorite.

Brian is pre-deceased by his parents, Edward J. and Marjorie S. (MacNeil) Murphy.  He is survived by his wife, Stacey Reed; four siblings, five sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law, a son-in-law, many nieces and nephews, a grandniece, two aunts, many cousins and lastly his little black cat, "Monty".

A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday, January 13, 2023, from 2-4 P.M. at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham.
