Bruce D. Lauterwasser, 70, died gracefully on November 2, 2021 after living for 9 years with appendiceal cancer. Born on June 8, 1951, Bruce grew up in Chatham, New Jersey, the son of Barbara (Bates) Lauterwasser and the late Herbert W. Lauterwasser of Laconia, New Hampshire. He leaves his beloved wife of 39 years, Karen (Viglione), his siblings, Ralph Lauterwasser of Oak Creek, Colorado, Richard Lauterwasser and wife Linda Gibbs of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Jill Lauterwasser of Wakefield, MA. He also leaves his four children, Steven of Oakland, CA, Clara of Boston, MA, and Gregory and Hannah of Winchester, MA, as well as a favorite aunt Joan Forsberg of Claremont, CA, a favorite cousin Babs Forsberg of Berkeley, CA, and numerous Lauterwasser, Forsberg, and Wood cousins, and Viglione in-laws. After his early years in Chatham, NJ, Bruce obtained his bachelor’s degree in physics from Middlebury College (1973) and his Ph.D. in Materials Science & Engineering from Cornell University (1979), where he met his future wife, Karen. Bruce worked for over 35 years for Raytheon Technologies as an engineering manager. Throughout his life he enjoyed spending as much time as possible at his family’s summer cottage on Lake Kanasatka. While not at work, Bruce participated in many musical endeavors: SIX (a classic rock cover band), the Carilloneers handbell choir, Sounds of Grace hospice choir, and the chancel choir at his church. Following his retirement in 2014, Bruce took great joy in expanding his work in and for his church, the First Congregational Church in Winchester, where he served as volunteer treasurer for the last five years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memorial Fund of First Congregational Church Winchester, 21 Church Street, Winchester, MA 01890, noting Memorial Fund or Bruce’s name in the memo line of the check. A celebration of Bruce’s life of music, love, inquiry, and service will be held at the church on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 1:00 pm. The celebration will be live streamed (on YouTube, search for FCCW Streaming Channel or follow link http://bit.ly/fccwstream ).
