Edith E. Harvey

February 5, 1930 — May 26, 2018

Edith E. Harvey, age 88, of Stoneham, passed away May 26, 2018, at her home, following a lengthy decline.  She was the beloved wife of the late John E. Harvey.  Born in Malden, MA and raised in Revere; she was the daughter of the late Warren and Helen (Noonan) Smith.

Edith was a graduate of Revere High School in the class of 1947.   During her youth, she worked at the food concessions and the amusement rides for Hurley Amusements at Revere Beach.  Following her RHS graduation, Edith worked as a secretary for John Hancock Ins. in Boston.

It was at the Wonderland Dance Hall in Revere that Edith met her husband-to-be John.  The couple went on to share 58 years of marriage.

In 1954, they settled in Stoneham to raise their family.  Edith was a devoted mother and homemaker, but she did find time to work for many years at Howard Johnson’s at Redstone in Stoneham.  She became dear friends with several of the waitresses there and each year since, they have met for a reunion to share fond memories and to catch up with their current lives. Edith would often be found enjoying a cup of coffee with friends at McDonald’s in Woburn, as well.

In later years, after their girls were off to college, Edith and her husband enjoyed travelling.  They toured Europe and took several bus trips throughout the U.S.

She is survived by her two devoted daughters, Faith Harvey and her husband Reino Auvinen of Stoneham and Cindy Donahue and her husband Barry of Belchertown; her cherished grandchildren John Collins and his wife Heidi of Ashburnham, Deana Braganca of Stoneham, Daniel Braganca of Baltimore, MD, Kelly Donahue and her husband Mike Darmochwat II of Monson, Peter Donahue of Belchertown and Kristy Donahue of Agawam and a great granddaughter Niev Collins.  She was the sister of Helen Carter of Arlington and Dorothy Simolaris of Billerica and the late Warren, Arthur and William Smith.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her companion and dear friend, Alfred Chiuve of Stoneham.

A private prayer service will be held at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home followed by burial in Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham.   Those desiring, may send a memorial tribute to Care Dimensions; Ste. B-102; 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
