Edith C. Norton, 73, of Stoneham, formerly of Wilmington and Magnolia, died Saturday, June 4, 2022. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Norman Norton.
Born and raised in Wilmington, she was the daughter of Virginia (Heath) Young and the late Donald P. Young. Edith was married on May 13, 1972 and lived with her husband in Wilmington until 1977, when they moved to Magnolia with their two young children.
In Magnolia, Edie is fondly remembered for her involvement with the VBS program at Union Congregational Church, other children’s ministries, adult Bible studies, her hospitality, and great skill and love of gardening.
In 1988, she and her husband moved their family to Stoneham, where she lived for the remainder of her life. There she became a vital member of the First Baptist Church in Stoneham and served for many years as a deacon, secretary, clerk, and vibrant leader in the Sunday School program. When she wasn’t in the nursery, she could be found in the Sunday School classroom leading the kids in song with her infectious love of music, or serving the wider community as a cook in the Community Dinners program.
To all who were blessed to know her, Edie was a wonderful friend and listener. Her compassion, sense of humor, and dedication to serving God and everyone around her will be acutely missed.
She was the cherished mother of Krista (Norton) Ellis of Woburn, Andrew Norton of Reading, and Daniel Norton of Beverly. She loved their respective spouses Michael, Sarah, and Vanessa like her own children. Edie lovingly delighted and devoted herself to her grandchildren, Rebekah, Sarah, and Hannah Ellis, Ethan, Emma and Liam Norton of Reading, and Henry and Clementine of Beverly.
She is also survived by her mother Virginia Young, sisters Janet (Young) Marshall of Hampstead, NH, and Barbara (Young) Stanga of Harrisburg, NC.
ARRANGEMENTS: There will be a time to remember her together and visit on Wednesday June 8 from 4-7 pm in the parlor of First Baptist Church of Stoneham, 457 Main Street, Stoneham, MA, 02180. On Thursday June 9 at 11am, there will be a funeral service in the sanctuary of FBC Stoneham to celebrate her life as we worship God who gave her to us. Her family will commit her remains to the earth at a private service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory to First Baptist Church of Stoneham or the American Cancer society would be welcome.
