Eva M. Maillett

d. May 29, 2023

Eva M. Maillett, a woman filled with kindness and devotion to her family and friends passed away peacefully on May 29, 2023.

Eva was born in 1932 in Weymouth, Digby County, Nova Scotia.  She was the daughter of the late Viola and Nelson Amirault and was predeceased by three brothers, Richard, Victor and William Amirault. She came to the United States to find work but also found a husband and married Richard J. Maillett in May 1958.  Eva and Richard moved to Stoneham to start their family and after his untimely death, she raised her four children with support of family and the spiritual support of her faith.

A resourceful woman, Eva capitalized on her skills in home decorating and began wallpapering for friends, who all kept her quite busy while allowing her to be home for her children every afternoon.  With the kids grown and the work of climbing ladders getting more challenging, Eva went to work for, and eventually retired from her position as a cashier/clerk, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company and from Augustine's Restaurant where she catered banquets on the weekends.

Eva loved having family around and provided a welcoming home whenever it was needed.  All the children knew where the cookies were kept.  She enjoyed her family fun nights, dressing up at Halloween, putting together silly yankee swaps at Christmas and vacationing with the family.  She kept herself busy by attending church regularly, lunching with the ladies on Friday's, and playing cards with friends.  Eva loved to play games and knew how to play more card games than most, did puzzles when it snowed and seized every opportunity for adventure.  She loved to travel and in addition to traveling back home to Nova Scotia every year until covid hit, traveled the world.  She especially enjoyed the warm, tropical places she visited.

Eva was the beloved mother of Marc, Paul and his wife Mary, Yvonne Bennett and her husband Joe all from Stoneham  and  Diane Salley and her husband Kevin from Burlington.  She was the proud Nana to Danielle, Katie, Haley, Dillon and Tom and Nana-in-law to James Dawson and Joey Tamburrini  She is also survived by her wonderful great-grandchildren, Samantha, Maggie, Dani, Aiden, Olivia and Evamae.  She will be dearly missed by her sister-in-law, confidant and best friend, Joan Jordan, brother-in-law Robert Holbrook and many, many nieces and nephews.

Eva was a long-time member of St. Patrick's Parish in Stoneham and suggested that in lieu of flowers, donations could be made to St. Patrick's Parish, 71 Central Street, Stoneham, MA 02180 or to a charity of your choice.
