Florence “Flossie” Amirault passed away from natural causes on November 26, 2022, at the age of 102. Born at home on October 22, 1920 on Elm Street to the late Eugene O. Amirault and Florence (Coward Schafer) Amirault, Flossie was a lifelong resident of Marblehead. After high school she held a clerical position with a hardware wholesaler in Boston before enlisting in the US Coast Guard during WWII (1943-1946). After the war, she worked for 22 years in the treasurer’s office for the Town of Marblehead, and later did clerical work for businesses that placed temporary help. She retired in 1985 at the age of 65. Floss was a competitive badminton player, and enjoyed sailing, tennis, golf and bowling throughout her life. She golfed until she was 90, bowled until she was 95, and was an avid Red Sox fan until the end. At home she enjoyed knitting and decorative Tole painting. A lifelong member of St. Michael’s church, she volunteered in their thrift shop and was a member of the St. Catherine’s Guild. She was also a volunteer at the Lighthouse thrift shop. Floss lived independently at home until the day before her 102nd birthday.
Florence is survived by her sister Virginia (Amirault) Curtis of Marblehead, her nieces Florence (Rothman) Ryan, Kaye (Schafer Allen) Williamson, Rene (Curtis) McCartney, and Cheryl (Curtis MacIver) Smith, and her nephew Barry Schafer. She is predeceased by her sister Maud (Schafer) Rothman, and brothers Daniel Schafer, Walter Schafer, John Schafer and Eugene Amirault Jr.
