Frederick Payne, age 94, of Newmarket, NH, formerly of Stoneham, passed away on March 1, 2020 at the Exeter Hospital in NH. Born in Milton, MA and raised in Malden, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Olive (Glendinning) Payne.

Fred was a graduate of Malden High School, Class of 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during WWII. He attended Bryant and Stratton Business School and worked for many years at the former National Shawmut Bank and the Winchester National Bank.

He was married to his loving wife, the late Marjorie (Lewis) Payne, for 65 years. They first resided in Stoneham where they raised their two daughters, Deborah and Nancy. For many years, Fred and Marjorie lived in Canada, settling in St. John's, Newfoundland (Marjorie's place of birth). They returned to the United States permanently in 2000 and lived in Exeter, NH.

After Marjorie's passing in 2013, Fred moved to Newmarket, NH. He enjoyed being a member of the Sunrise Sunset Senior Center in Newmarket and the Ray-Fre Senior Center in Raymond, NH. He was a 60plus year member of the Masons, associated with the former King Cyrus Lodge of Stoneham.

He is survived by his beloved daughters, Deborah Chase and her husband Donald of Stratham, NH and Nancy Sawyer of Melrose. He leaves three grandchildren, Melissa (Sawyer) Rogerson of Peabody, Jason Sawyer and his companion Laura Jodoin of Melrose and Allyson (Sawyer) Clocher and her husband Richard of Hudson, NH. Fred leaves four great grandsons, Jacob, Noah, Tyler and Nicolas. He is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Canada. He also leaves his step-grandchildren, Danielle Lemelin Taylor (Joshua) of Exeter, NH and Christopher Chase (Kristin) of Portsmouth, NH, and his step-great granddaughter Olivia. He was predeceased by his sister, Wynefred Jenness, of Wakefield.
Visitation at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, Thursday, March 5th, 4-7PM, followed by a prayer service at 7PM. Burial: Friday, March 6th at 11 A.M. in Lindenwood Cemetery, Stoneham. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Shriner's Hospital for Children.
