Dear Family and Friends,
It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I announce the death of my brother James Reuther Richey.
Jimmy was a kind and gentle soul who loved his family, friends, and co-workers deeply, especially his beloved wife of 21 years, Ang Passang. Jim embraced Passang’s native Sherpa culture and her extended family and they traveled to Nepal often to visit. They had recently bought a second home in Kathmandu and looked forward to retiring part of the year there to be close to Passang’s family.
Jim was passionate about his work and excelled as a master wood finisher and craftsman. Jim ran the Mark Richey Woodworking Finish Department for 30 years, helping to transform a fledgling woodshop into an industry leader. Jim patiently taught and mentored many of our best finishers who run that part of our Company today.
Jim was also a self-taught and accomplished artist and painter, like his Dad Gene Richey and Grandfather Clyde Richey. We will always remember the joyous Christmas gatherings at Jim and Passangs home with Jim’s delicious pot roast, Passangs Momo’s and the German Dutch cakes Jim prepared from our Grandmothers recipe.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Ang Passang Richey, their son, Passang Sherpa, our mother Christine Richey, Jim’s three siblings, Susan, Peter, Mark, their spouses, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Jim passed away in their Gloucester home on Tuesday, February 12 th . He was 66 years old.
Please join us if you can on Sunday, February 24 th at 10 a.m. for a remembrance of Jim Richey at Mark Richey Woodworking, 40 Parker Street, Newburyport, MA. En lieu of flowers please consider a tax deductible gift in Jim’s name to Maiti Nepal, www.maitinepal.org a Nepal based charity for girls at risk that Jim and Passang support.
