Jeannette Norton, age 98, a longtime resident of Stoneham, died May 18, 2020, at Winchester Hospital following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Norman A. Norton. Born in Boston and raised in Arlington; she was the daughter of the late Charles and Clara (Jones) Shedd.
Following graduation from Arlington High School, Jeannette attended art school.
Upon her marriage to Norman, she moved from her family home in Arlington to Stoneham where she had resided for 77 years. Jeannette and Norman made a happy and active life in Stoneham raising their five children and participating in community activities. Over the years, Jeanette enjoyed being a Scout Leader, teaching survival courses, making crafts for the Congregational Church fair, gardening and white river rafting. She loved adventure and being outdoors.
She was the mother of Richard Norton and his wife Miriam of Cadiz, KY, Sally Durrell of Plymouth, Shirley Hanlon and her husband Dave of Stoneham, Peggy Withrow and her husband Kevin of N. Charleston, SC. and the late Shelley Norton. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.
Visiting Hours will be held Tuesday, 9-11 A.M. at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham, followed by burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
