Surrounded by his loving family, John E. Burke, of Malden and Stoneham, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2023, after a brief illness.
John is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Marie (Caliguiri) Burke
Also survived by his son, Brian Burke and wife Linda of Melrose. Proud Grandfather to Kathryn Burke of Melrose, and Michael Burke and his wife Chanelle of South Carolina.
After serving in the US Navy, John met Marie and went on to raise their family in Malden. John was an active member in several organizations, including Masons, Shriners, and the Lions Club, as well as in the church.
During his retirement, he spent his time traveling the world with his wife Marie, they especially loved cruises. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden, growing tomatoes, zucchini and raspberries.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Memories of Friday night dinners, playing games, building something on the workbench, and “fishing” in the backyard. He will be remembered for his love of plaid shirts, (always with a pen in the pocket), cowboy boots, and whistling while he worked.
John spent his childhood in Fairhaven as part of a large family. Even after the brothers and sisters spread out all over the country, they always found time to come together for Burke Family Reunions, sometimes exceeding 100 family members. A good time was had by all.
A celebration of life will be held Thursday, September 28th at Anderson-Bryant from 4-7PM.
