John Ralph Anastas Jr., "Yan", age 44, died unexpectedly at his home, October 27, 2022. A lifelong resident of Stoneham, he was the beloved son of John R. and Mary C. (Liberatore) Anastas of Stoneham.
As a youngster, Yan was a competitive sports player in Stoneham's Sports Youth Programs; baseball, soccer and football. At Stoneham High, he played varsity football and skied the black diamond trails with the Alpenhof Ski Club. Yan graduated with the Class of 1996. As an adult, he chose to play golf and go fishing, sports less apt to cause injuries.
When Yan was 16 1/2, he approached his father for a loan to augment his savings from part time work at Shaws, to help in the purchase of a 1993 red Mustang, that became his prize possession. He and his father lovingly reconditioned the "Bad Rag" and it is in mint condition today.
Yan took great pride in being a member of the Union Laborer Local 22. Not only did he enjoy the physical work in construction, he worked alongside many who became good friends.
Yan was good natured, loved by everyone and his presence would light up a room.
In addition to his parents, he leaves his uncle Richard Liberatore and his wife Maureen of Somerville.
