Lester F. Proverb Jr. age 94, of Tewksbury, passed away peacefully at Blair House on October 17, 2018, with his son by his side. Born in Cambridge, MA; he was the son of the late Lester F. and Marguerite G. (Roberts) Proverb. He was the husband of the late Mary L. (Innes) Proverb who died August 5, 2000, to whom he was married 55 years and sorely missed by him.
Lester was the oldest of five children. He graduated from Sumner High School in Holbrook and enlisted in the US Navy during WWII. He spoke very little about the war, but he did relay that he was a motor machinist on a mine sweeper, and that during D-day, his ship struck a mine damaging the engine room with resulting loss of crew and for which he received a Purple Heart. It was while on leave, Lester met his future wife at a dance. After the war, and while his three children were young, Lester worked two jobs, as both a Chelsea MTA bus driver for fifteen years and an employee of Wilmington Coal and Oil. Eventually, he became a long time employee and retiree of Federal Heating of Winchester. He was a longtime resident of Tewksbury. and upon retirement he and his wife became 'Snowbirds", taking flight annually to Zephyr Hills, Florida via a "fifth wheel" and later a Winnebago. After Mary's passing, Lester sold their home and continued the "Snowbird" migration to Zepher Hills in the winter and parked his camper at State Parks or his children's yards during spring migration. In 2009, when his health started to fail, he was relocated permanently to Blair House.
He was the father of Robert Proverb and his wife Janet of Mithlothian, VA Stephen Proverb and his wife Marie-Claire of Stoneham and Denise McNeil of Oklahoma City, OK. He is also survived by a brother, Jack Proverb and his wife Lois of Chelmsford; eight grandchildren ; twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

will be held Sunday, November 18, 2-4 P.M. with a funeral service at 3:30 P.M. Interment will take place Monday, November 19th at 10 A.M. in Tewksbury Cemetery.
