Margaret Hegarty Cheverie

Margaret H. (Hegarty) Cheverie, age 94, of Waltham, formerly of Arlington and Somerville, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 22, 2018, surrounded by family. She was the daughter of the late Robert Emmett and Ruth ( Paquette) Hegarty. Born in Fort Augustus, P.E.I., Canada, she emigrated to the U.S. at the age of four, living with her family, first in Maine, then in Massachusetts.

A graduate of St. Clement’s High School in Somerville, she became a U.S. citizen and was a full-charge bookkeeper prior to her marriage in 1952 to Herbert J. Cheverie, Jr. They had three daughters and settled in Arlington. After her children were grown, she returned to the workforce as an accountant for Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services and Goodness & Tyler, P.C., retiring from Elder Services in 1994.

Peg will be missed by her three daughters and their husbands, Janice and Clyde Dottin of Framingham, Larraine LeMar and Andy Crumpholt of Gardner, and Maureen and Otha Sonnie of Medford.  She is survived by siblings, Joan Jordan of TX, and Ruth Caskey and her husband, Boyd, of DE; brother, F. David Hegarty and his wife, Mary, of FL; and sister-in-law, Alice Hegarty of Stoneham. Peg is predeceased by brothers Clarence, Robert, George and Richard Hegarty. She was the beloved grandmother of Clyde Dottin III and his wife Rayelyne, Stacia Patton-Bowe and her husband Antonesio, and Christopher LeMar and his fiancée Aliceson Hill. Peg also leaves six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham, MA on Friday, December 28 ^th at 10:00 A.M. followed by Interment at St. Patrick’s Cemetery .  Arrangements by Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home.
