Margaret Anna Stanavich, age 99, of Stoneham, died September 28, 2022, following a five-year decline in health at Bear Hill Nursing Center. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony R. Stanavich. Born and raised in Key West, Florida, Margaret was the daughter of the late Agustus and Agnes (McCann) Saunders.
At nineteen, Margaret married LeRoy Curtis, who was serving in the military during WWII. Together they had three children and soon after a divorce. Margaret was then a single mother raising her children and working hard at various jobs, never complaining.
She eventually found employment at Polaroid in Cambridge where she worked for over 25 years as an office worker. It was at Polaroid that she met and eventually married Tony . They had a very happy marriage and together enjoyed living in Cambridge and traveling on extended vacations.
Peg enjoyed socializing and chatting with people; on weekends she loved working at Gladys' Donut Shop in Cambridge where she could do just that and bring home leftover doughnuts, too. In quieter times, she looked forward to reading the Boston Globe and helping out at the Stoneham Food Pantry
She was a "Great Mother" to Richard F. Curtis of Stoneham, Robert E. Curtis of Laconia, NH and Carol Curtis of Florida. She is survived by sixteen grandchildren.
Those desiring may make a memorial gift to the Stoneham Food Pantry.
