Marilyn Elizabeth Moore

d. February 4, 2024

Marilyn E. Moore departed this world and met her Lord on Sunday, February 4, 2024. Marilyn was born in Boston, the only child of Theodore Einer Stevenson and Elizabeth Ratcliffe (Sloane) Stevenson. Her first best friend was her beloved St. Bernard, Rex.

After completing a year of college, Marilyn hit the road as a long-haul truck driver, proudly visiting all 50 states. She was later employed by the Department of Customs as a broker for international shipping, retiring in 1984.

In retirement, she traveled the world, visiting over 30 countries and collecting friends along the way. She kept regular correspondence with a Venetian family who hosted her for Christmas when her flight to Rome was grounded and she found herself snowed in for 3 days.

An active member of several churches over the years, Marilyn was a talented organist and vocalist. Over the years she compiled a cookbook that was shared among friends who could only aspire to be half the chef she was. Not one for downtime, Marilyn was a lifelong member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, enthusiastic birdwatcher, ceramics artist, and seamstress.

Marilyn was immensely proud of her 9-room Victorian home in Somerville, which she lovingly restored with her father. She left it only to become a founding member of Brooksby Village, where she continued to amass friends and share her faith by volunteering in music and visiting ministries.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her daughter, Katrina in 1963; her parents; and her two cats, Tubby and Misty. She is survived by countless friends and chosen family, all of whom will miss her friendship and mischievous sense of humor, but can take joy in the knowledge that she is reunited with her beloved parents and daughter.

In accordance with Marilyn’s wishes, internment will be private.

In lieu of flowers (which she was horribly allergic to), loved ones can honor Marilyn’s memory by curling up with cup of coffee and a good book.
