Michael James Swansburg

August 18, 1961 — August 5, 2022

Michael ‘Swanny’ Swansburg faced off with the big referee in the sky on August 5, 2022 after a courageous battle with stomach cancer. Born on August 18, 1961 in Winthrop, he was the son of Mary Swansburg and the late Donald E. Swansburg Jr.

Michael crafted a life of purpose built on a foundation of honesty, hard work and generosity. He was a loyal friend to all, most especially to the numerous dogs he rescued. His legacy includes founding two successful roofing companies and, with his sound advice and support, encouraging many to recognize and make the most of their potential. During their 25 years together, his wife Linda was Michael’s #1 cheerleader at all of his hockey tournaments whether he was charging on the ice or raging in the penalty box. Like his beloved Rotties and his best buddy Stuart Little, his bark was worse than his bite.

Michael and Linda created a tropical oasis in the woods of Andover where they made lasting memories hosting amazing parties for family and friends. His life was rich with countless deep and meaningful relationships. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Linda Sabatula Swansburg; his mother, Mary; sisters, Mary Ellen (John) DeFuria and Kathleen of Wilmington; brother Donald Swansburg, III (Gina) of Middleton as well as many nephews and nieces, including Merideth Hallett who loved him like a father, good friends whom he considered family and his devoted canine companions Millie and Dozah.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Michael’s life on Saturday, August 13 at First Parish Congregational Church in Wakefield. The family will be available to receive condolences at 10am, and the service will start at 11am. “The highest compliment that you can pay me is to say that I work hard every day, that I never dog it,” - Wayne Gretzky. Michael- you never dogged it.

In lieu of flowers and to honor Michael's life, donations to MSPCA at Nevins Farm, Methuen, MA are much appreciated.
