Robert P. Mathewson, age 88, a lifelong resident of Stoneham, died following a brief illness on April 9, 2023, at the Sawtelle Hospice in Reading, MA. Born in Medford, MA; he was the youngest son of Ralph and Dorothy (Douquette) Mathewson.
Robert was the beloved husband of 63 years to the late Barbara (Foley) Mathewson. They both were graduates of Stoneham High School, where Bob played baseball, basketball and was co-captain of the hockey team. Bob and Barbara were thrilled to be with old friends attending the celebration as the 1952-53 Hockey Team was embraced as members in the SHS Athletic Hall of Fame.
Bob began his 45+ year career keeping the production lines running at Hood's Milk by hitchhiking to the Charlestown plant. Overtime he became supervisor of various lines, including orange juice. His quiet demeanor served him well as a parttime limousine driver
Enjoyment of painting and creating arts and crafts expanded in his later years; but his first passion in life was always time with family and enjoying a good meal.
He was a devoted father to Deborah Mathewson of Malden, Daniel Mathewson of Woburn and "special daughter" Marion. He is also survived by brother-in-law William Kelleher of Woburn, sister-in-law Carol Liccardi and her husband Bart, and many nieces and nephews
